5 must-know non flower decor wedding tips_wedding blog

Top 5 Non-Floral Decor Tips! | Wedding Planning Tips

May 17, 2017 in Greg Boulus Events | Tips

There are many ways to transform a space to make it wedding-ready. Obviously one of our favorite ways to accomplish this is through large, beautiful floral installations. However that is not the only way!

We also love using non-floral elements to take a space from big, old, dark, and/or dingy and bring a fresh, light look to it. Here are a few tips and tricks we use to completely alter the look and feel of a space.

1. Draping

One of our go-to tricks for dramatically altering a space is by bringing in some pipe & drape. We frequently use draping to close off large cavernous spaces to make them smaller and more intimate, but we also use it to lighten up a space and make it feel brighter and warmer! Though truth be told, we also use draping a lot to cover up unsightly walls that may not be in the best of shape. Regardless, it really brings a completely different look to any space we use draping in. We especially love it when we get to use custom draping so it is a completely one-of-a-kind look for that specific wedding or event.

2. Lighting

As we mentioned in our behind-the-scenes post, lighting is always a big game-changer when it comes to event production. We love having lots of candles, maybe even lanterns, to warm up an evening wedding or event. However we also like to bring in some dramatic lighting via up-lights and pin-spotting. When we need to define a space we like to use up-lights to create the effect of walls or boundaries. We also like to feature interesting architectural features or beautiful landscape, such as trees. Another lighting element we love to use are pin-spots to highlight either gorgeous floral arrangements, guest tables, and especially the cake. Plus with the right tools we can use lighting to make things we don't want to see disappear. A really wonderful trick that helps us take a space and make it look completely different.

3. Lounge Furniture

If you follow along with our social media you will see that we love having a variety of seating for our guests. But one of the best ways to really elevate the look of a space is by bringing in some beautiful lounge seating. A lot of rental companies have a variety of options to fit any event style and we like incorporating some soft seating into our event design to bring a different look to a space. Plus it makes for a cozy place for guests to sit and enjoy themselves throughout the evening!

4. Beautiful linens

One place where many clients may choose to skip but we always encourage considering is beautiful linens. Especially if your wedding includes a seated dinner. Beautiful, high-quality linens really do make a difference when guests sit down to enjoy their meal. However linens are also a fun way to incorporate a fun pattern or introduce some color into your overall event or wedding design. Having a pretty linen coordinate with beautiful florals is something we never get tired of seeing.

5. Specialty tabletop & glassware

It is not as common here in Augusta for our clients to have seated dinners at their weddings and events, but when they do, we love incorporating higher quality tabletop and glassware for their guests to enjoy. Something about a beautiful wine glass and plateware really elevates the whole experience. Plus from what we have heard from our photographer friends, it's special details like that that help get weddings published if that is something that you are interested in as a bride.
