Selecting Your Venue

Oftentimes, one of the very first steps in the wedding planning process is selecting a venue for your reception. When doing so, there are a handful of things we keep in mind to ensure the location will suit the needs of your wedding day. Below are five things included on that list:

Proximity to Ceremony

If your ceremony is not taking place at the same venue as your reception, you will want to consider the proximity of the two. Ideally, guests will have a commute of 15 minutes or less from one location to the next. The closer, the better!

Your Guest Count

As you can imagine, a celebration with 500 guests will demand much more space than one for 50. Even more than the physical space of the venue itself, we also consider additional aspects such as restrooms and parking.

Catering Style

This area is multi-dimensional. First, let’s speak to how this intercedes with the guest count.

The style of reception - whether is it cocktailing, chef-attended stations, or a plated meal - this element directly impacts the space requirements for your guests.

Naturally, with a plated meal, every guest is provided a seat at a table. This can sometimes be challenging if hosting a large number of guests. A popular solution to this conundrum is to host chef-attended stations which reduces the seating demand and can ensure a flow of movement amongst your guests.

Catering Vendor

A number of venues, often those affiliated with country clubs and hotels, have experienced catering teams onsite to execute your evening’s food and beverage needs.

If not, the alternative is to source an outside caterer. A key element is ensuring an appropriate kitchen space is provided for their use. Many venues provide just that, a kitchen for your caterer’s team. If not, tenting and equipment will need to be brought onsite.

Space for Your Band

Our full-service planning experience begins with an initial consultation to discuss your ideas, followed by a location visit to a suitable venue that will allow the seamless execution of that vision.
