Ask the Photographer: "Do I Need a Wedding Hashtag?"

March 08, 2017 in Greg Boulus Events | Tips

So far we have discussed many wedding photography trends, the unplugged ceremony, the engagement session, the bridal session, the first look. Today we addressing one of the newest and potentially most creatively-challenging wedding photography trends. Anyone who has been to a wedding in the last few years has noticed the big trend in creating a custom wedding hashtag for you and guests to use when posting on social media. We have had several of our brides come up with clever hashtags for their friends and family to use so they could see all the images from their big day in one place. However it can be overwhelming to try and come up with a hashtag that is unique, clever and funny all rolled into one! Here is what a few of our photographer friends say about the hashtag frenzy:

"A hashtag is a must in today’s day and time.  Not only for the “fad” of placing signs at the wedding and it being a cute saying, but for documentation.  You can search and find so many images from your wedding via Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, that would otherwise be hard to track down.  However, I feel like people often make the mistake of it not being completely unique, so make sure you search  the hashtag on Instagram or Facebook before you use it to make sure your photos don’t categorize with other weddings across the globe." -Mark Williams Studio

"If you’re a social media user, you’ve inevitably seen the catchy and creative hashtags for friend’s weddings… and likely clicked over to see all of the fun! Hashtags let guests share photos from your wedding so that you’re able to see a fun reminder of your wedding day while you patiently wait for your photos to arrive! ;) Plus, as a photographer, I love to share a sneak preview from the wedding, and always share it using the hashtag if it exists. That means your friends who are also patiently waiting get to celebrate with you when one is live! However, if you’re not a social media user, don’t feel like you have to have a hashtag just because “everyone else is doing it!” Do what works for you and prioritize what you care about most!" -Lauren Carnes Photography

"I would say 90% of my couples each year have a hashtag. It can be a great way to corral all of your guest photos into one place, but unfortunately I do think hashtags kind of promote the use of cell phone photos which can be so very distracting to your professional photos and can also prevent your guests (or even friends and family!) from being present during really important parts of the day. While having a funny or witty hashtag is one of the most current trends, I definitely do not think there is a down side to not having a one." -Britt Croft Photography

Have you ever been curious about what your wedding planner is up to on your wedding day? From the time the sun rises until you rest your head on your pillow, your planner is dedicated to ensuring your wedding goes off without a hitch. Here is a fun play-by-play from one of our weddings this past October.

Differences between Wedding Planners and Venue Managers
Differences between Wedding Planners and Venue Managers

Venue managers are a vital part of the planner’s vendor team, and they ensure everything taking place at the venue in their control is in order. However, if you are looking for support that relieves the stress of procuring and managing handfuls of vendors of various skills and overseeing their services on your wedding day to execute your vision, engage a wedding planner who will be your go-to professional for all things design and coordination.

Selecting Your Venue
Selecting Your Venue

Oftentimes, one of the very first steps in the wedding planning process is selecting a venue for your reception. When doing so, there are a handful of things we keep in mind to ensure the location will suit the needs of your wedding day. Detailed in this blog post are five things included on that list.

Bridesmaid Bouquet Inspiration | Wedding Planning Tips

March 01, 2017 in Best of GB Events, Greg Boulus Florals, Greg Boulus Events | Tips

As a wedding planner with an in-house florist, we get the pleasure of not only helping our couples with the overall aesthetic of their wedding day, but also the floral design details. And one of its most important elements, the bridesmaids' bouquets.

This is where, as floral designers, we get to be creative but also set the tone for the rest of the wedding. Besides the ceremony backdrop, it is one of the first floral design pieces that guests notice (and will definitely be featured in many of your photographs), therefore it is a great way to preview what is to come later at the reception.

Based on our bride's preferences and the bridesmaid dresses, we put together a complimentary color palate for the bridesmaids' bouquets. While the bride's bouquet tends to be lighter in tone, her maids' bouquets are where we can really play with color and texture.

As you can see in many of the images below, we like to inject colorful blooms that represent the season. Beautiful lilac in the spring, orange garden roses in the fall. However many of our brides are looking for a neutral color palate, which lends itself to a beautiful wedding that will never go out of style. Either way you will have beautiful flowers to compliment your beautiful girls!

Which of the bouquets below are your favorite? Comment down below!

Ask the Photographer: "Should I Book a Bridal Session?"

February 22, 2017 in Greg Boulus Events | Tips

While most couples book an engagement session with their photographers, it is not quite as popular yet for brides to book their own separate bridal session. However our photographer experts agree that booking a separate session for just you can be a very smart decision not only for the photos, but for many other reasons as well, keep reading to learn why!
